2010 Canadian Fishing Trip Updates
Monday Update #3
Just heard from the guys at 8:45 pm.
They are about 3 hours out. So, midnight is still
the estimated time of arrival
Monday Update #2
Just heard from the crew and then an
hour later Cathy P. talked to Brian and called Amy.
Pastor Dallas thought they would be home maybe about 11:00pm instead,
but Cathy found out they had a little trouble with one of the trailers, so
it looks closer to midnight. Amy
will get a call when they get stateside.
Feel free to keep checking the website or call Amy.
Monday Update #1
Well I just heard from the fishing crew at 1:00pm.
They had just finished packing up and were taking off.
If all goes well, they plan to be home at 10:00 pm!
Sunday Update
They had another GREAT day!
They got up and had a special devotional time this
morning since it was Sunday.
They had solo time for an hour where they all
worshipped and had personal devotions on their own.
After breakfast and solo time, they all went
fishing.
Daniel caught a 35 inch Northern, Hayden a 37 inch Northern,
and Scott a 33 inch Northern.
Mike and Pastor Dallas took all the young kids up
to the falls.
So all the mom's will be happy to know the kids took a bath
in a small waterfall!
They all had fun playing in the Falls!
For dinner they had Beef ribs cooked over the
fire.
After dinner they did more fishing!
They had a great devotional and sharing time this
evening.
They talked about how they want to come home different people
then the way they went up.
They shared the lessons they learned while on the
trip.
The trip was full of good fellowship, fishing, and everyone wants to
go back next year!
They plan to get up early, pack and get home as soon as they
can.
They are hoping to get home early evening, but most likely it will
be late evening.
Saturday Update
They had a GREAT DAY!
Everyone brought in a full stringer.
In fact they are catching so many fish, they have
started having "Walleye Wars".
When they throw a fish back, they throw it toward
the boat closest to them, hoping to get them wet.
There was a MONSTER catch today!
Dwayne caught a 45 inch Northern!!!
It barely fits in the ice cooler.
He plans on bringing it home to mount!
Mel had a cool story.
While he was reeling in a little Walleye, a Northern
came and ate the Walleye, so he ended up catching a Northern.
Then when Zach reeled in a Walleye and took it off
the hook, it spit out a crayfish.
Luke caught a 35 inch Pike and Eli a 24 inch Pike.
Jeremy, Jed, and Nate all decided to go explore a
nearby lake.
They went an hour up a creek to find it was too shallow for
fish!
All the guys got a good laugh out of it.
Brian P. gave his testimony tonight and Mike gave
the devotional in the morning.
The guys have really been a spiritual encouragement
to each other.
They have been sharing their favorite Bible verses
and the reason they are their favorite.
They are really being challenged.
After a delicious steak
dinner, Jeremy told the group a good bear joke!
Friday Update
They are still having a GREAT TIME!
For the fishing updates:
Daniel limited out with a bunch of walleye.
Jeremy
seemed to really be on fire catching the fish today.
(He is really enjoying it!) Nate caught a 34 1/4 inch Northern.
James caught a 35 1/2 in Northern.
Zach caught a 26 in Northern and had fun reeling
it in.
They had fish for dinner with all the fish they caught.
Apparently they had quite the smorgasbord!
Scott made it back up safe and
sound.
On either his way out or on his way back in, he ran across
wolf cubs!
For devotions, they focused on Galations 2:20 and
how they can depend on the Lord and grow in their relationship with him.
They also all read Psalm 19 during the day.
They enjoyed hearing from Brian as he gave his
testimony.
Every evening the kids are being read a book from the Sugar
Creek Gang series.
The group is loving being the only ones on the
entire lake!
They are having fun together.
The fishing is fantastic and spiritual times are
going well.
Thursday Update
The group is having an AWESOME TIME! The day started out cloudy and
rainy. There was drizzle in the morning and then it became a
beautiful, sunny day. They got in a full day of fishing where everyone
was "raking in the fish". It took them a while to figure out what the
fish were biting on and where they were biting. It turns out they were
biting on worms! Mel and Auggie saw a mink. Daniel P. had a 2
foot walleye on his line, got it up to the boat, and then it broke his pole!
Jeremy caught a 28 inch Northern. Dallas was helping Zach and
Eli catch walleye which really started biting between 9pm and 10 pm.
They ended up bringing 7 medium size walleye back to camp. The group
had great devotional and testimonial time. Mike S. gave his testimony.
They are happy to report no injuries. The food was incredible - they had
pork tenderloin glazed with cherry salsa and chicken breast. The
bugs are pretty thick, but they still report to be having just an AWESOME
TIME!
Wednesday Update
The group made it in safely to their sight tonight between 6 pm and 7 pm.
They took 2 vehicles back (Dwayne's and Scott's), so they were able to take
everyone in on one trip. They went down a weedy river and had to stop
to untangle the propeller's, but managed just fine. Some of the
group saw 6 river otter on their way in. They got the screen tent set
up in the knick of time before the bugs came out. They
enjoyed a meal of hot dogs and are having fun hanging around the fire and
getting the gear organized. They are all safe and well.
The sherpa's have been hard at work. They arrived at camp at 11:30
pm last night! They saw a bear, coyote, and fox on their way in.
They had to unclog a beaver dam to be able to get in to the sight. It
had flooded the road in. Everyone is tired and exhausted - in fact
Luke already had fallen asleep in the tent when they called at 9:45 pm.
Eli and Jeremy are doing GREAT (thought the mom's would want to know)!
They are having a lot of fun. All the kids enjoyed playing on a big
rock and hanging around the campfire. They should sleep great tonight!
Sam and Brian got stung by yellow jackets, but are doing okay.
